Ever wonder about the decorations of the little house on Main? Since July 2008, Jessie Russell of Drexel has overseen the project. Drexel Community Betterment Corporation (DCBC) voted early summer last year to do something about the unattended building by donating a few bucks toward a monthly decorating theme of the building. Russell, after complaining to the city that “something needs to be done,” took on the chore. “It just looked like a dump,” says Russell. “I told the city that it looked awful and it needed to be painted and some attention was needed. I started decorating it in monthly themes, with the first being the 4th of July. Not long after, the building got a fresh coat of paint and I’ve been decorating it ever since.” For this month, Russell, having a granddaughter graduating, decided to indulge in a graduation theme. The names of the local grads have been painted on the windows, black and gold streamers have transformed the cottage-style house and Tiger Lilies frame the tiny porch. Looking on to June, Russell already has a plan... it’ll be Flag Month... which will then automatically tie into the Lions Clubs’ 50th 4th of July celebration.
