A group made up of local business leaders, community-minded individuals, politicians and administrators, met last Tuesday evening for their regular monthly meeting at the Drexel School. Sue Bush-Wishon and Lila Jones teamed together to offer snacks for the Drexel Community Betterment Corporation members. Several salads, chips and pop made a great early dinner. Those present were Anita Brown, Sue Bush-Wishon, Lila Jones, Jim and Carol Welborn, Carol Pranulis, Cindy Orton, Aubry Deal, Casey Drehota and Dave Alburty. Guest speakers were Bri Gamache, Annie Orton, Tara Freeman and Nicole Vlieger.
Local Future Business Leaders Association (FBLA) students from Drexel, Annie Orton, Tara Freeman, Nicole Vlieger and Bri Gamache, prepared a detailed proposal for taking over the decorating of the little barbershop uptown from Jessie Russell, as she retires from that activity. The FBLA ran the “Cat Stop” last year, learning how to run a business and make a profit. The Cat Stop is a snack bar at school, ran with a goal to provide customer satisfaction and return profits to the school, the business itself for reinvestment, and towards a school function. Members are also learning several life and business skills. Their goal for next year is to open during lunch and get involved more with the community. In the past, the Cat Stop was open in the mornings and at lunch, but without a set location. Custom Bobcat apparel that doesn’t compete with the Booster Club is also in the works for next year. FBLA competes in business ethics, law, and holds events with other schools. FBLA wants to put together a conference for next year, with speakers, meetings, and topics for learning new skills. Community involvement can include decorating the small building. They also want to help out during the 4th of July, and decorating store windows in town to complement the decorations in the barbershop.  They are interested in updating the city website, and links to the school....
