School board meets, district looks into internet access
The Drexel R-IV School Board met in regular session on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Media Center. The meeting was called to order with the following members in attendance: President Christyne Hellebuyck, Vice President Vic Shipley, Treasurer Kim Hocker, and Members Chuck Martin, Ronnie Jacobs, Brad Lancaster, and Brenda Hadley. Others in attendance were: Jeff Levy, Robbie Shepherd, Linda Moles, and Dr. Judy Stivers. Visitors were: Kevin Gunnels and John Gunnels, Paulette Howard, Donna Rooney, Dennis Bolton, Lorrie Wilson, John Swezey, Chris Collins, and Darrah Munter.
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
Motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Hocker, seconded by Shipley, and carried unanimously.
All elementary teachers, including Jeff Levy and Title I instructor, Angela Kraft, will be attending a professional development day at Blue Springs Elementary School to see how Reader’s Workshop works when fully implemented.
A Child Safety presentation was scheduled for February 24th. Levy worked with PTO to set up the presentation. This was a free service offered by the Cass County Prosecutor for students to learn about keeping themselves safe.
All aspects of the Accelerated Reader program are completed. With community and staff assistance, Judy Daniel was able to complete the labeling of all of the books.
Upcoming events include: March 2-7th – District Basketball at Leeton. Cheerleaders are hosting a Dodgeball Tournament March 10th to raise money for summer camp. March 11th – A+ Partnership planning meeting. March 13th is the end of third quarter. March 14th - Hosting All-Conference Band.
Mr. Hudson and Mr. Spencer have 15-20 students turning out for the after school weight lifting program four days a week.
Mr. Hudson and Mrs. Groves are working together to present the play, Your’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, in April.
The Board agreed to a special conference meeting, April 8th, at 6:30 p.m. for new member orientation.
