Rep. Largent visits with DCBC members; optimistic of chances with Missouri Main Street Connection project

The Drexel Community Betterment Corporation met for the first time in the new year on Tuesday, January 26th from 5:30-7 p.m., at InnovaPrep on Main Street. The evening snacks were catered by David Kite and Viengsavanthong (Vinnie) Elliott, sponsored by InnovaPrep. Dave made turkey and ham sandwiches, with barbeque sausages and side dishes were complemented by Vinnie’s fresh sushi. Dessert was tasty homemade oatmeal cookies made by JoAnn Cawby. Those present were: Rep. Scott Largent, Dr. Judy Stivers, Vic Shipley, Sue Bush, Anita Brown, Monte Sink, Ted Kasper, Patsy Stewart, Patty Dreher, Joe Ziegler, Stacy Rice, Dr. Carol Pranulis, Lynette Harris, Dr. Marc Finke, JoAnn Cawby, Paul and Cindy Orton, Greg Mullinax, Linda Harris, her daughter, and Dave Alburty.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Marc Finke to start the meeting.
DCBC was honored to have Missouri District 120 Representative Scott Largent here in Drexel to participate in this month’s DCBC meeting kicking off the 2010 season. Scott has a business in Clinton, which participated in the Missouri Main Street Connection program over the last 12 years. The program has been a success there. Largent stated that he knows of other towns that have tried to participate in the MMSC that didn’t have the number of people involved that Drexel has, so he is very optimistic about Drexel’s chances for success. Success in the program depends on participation and persistence. He is very appreciative of what DCBC is doing and informed attendees that there is community development money out there if you know where to look.
