Partnership offers energy incentives
Two local companies teams up to offer
customers bill credits.
Missouri Gas Energy and KCP&L announced that they have entered into a joint agreement to offer their mutual customers up to $1,200 in bill credits for making energy efficient improvements to their homes.
The new partnership will be part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Home Performance with Energy Star program, a national initiative designed to provide homeowners with the resources to make energy efficient home improvements. Both KCP&L and MGE are among the many utilities across the country participating in this program. However, this partnership is unique and stands as a model of cooperation between utilities to promote energy efficiency among a common customer base.
“We are pleased that we can combine our efforts with KCP&L’s for the good of our customers and the environment,” said MGE Chief Operating Officer Rob Hack. “It’s a win-win situation for everyone and we hope our customers will partner with us to take advantage of this program.”
KCP&L President and Chief Operating Officer, Bill Downey, agrees.
“It is a part of KCP&L’s DNA to forge partnerships with companies in the community,” said Downey. “These partnerships enable us to offer innovative solutions to help customers reduce their energy consumption and their carbon footprint. In today’s economy, it is more important than ever to offer money saving-programs to our customers to help them lower their energy usage and bills.”
The program works by having a trained and certified energy auditor perform a whole-home energy audit to find the areas where the house is losing energy. The auditor then prepares a list of home improvements to correct each deficiency. The homeowner selects and implements one of the qualifying improvements and both KCP&L and MGE will reimburse the customer up to $600 each in bill credits..
