New CMC discussed at DCBC meeting

The Drexel Community Betterment Corporation held their monthly meeting at the Drexel Community Center on Tuesday, June 23, 2008. The first guest on the agenda was Chris Lang with Cass Medical Center. He brought everyone up to date on the new CMC construction process in Harrisonville with a Power Point presentation. The new facility will have 138,000 square feet, which is more than double the size of the current facility, stated Lang. Since Cass Medical Center is a critical access hospital, the number of beds in the new facility will not change. There will be 21 medical/surgical beds, 4 intensive care unit beds, and 10 behavioral health unit beds. The increase in square footage will most noticeably impact CMC’s outpatient services area, with increased space for specialist clinics and outpatient procedures, an expanded number of Emergency Department beds (moving from 5 beds to 11 beds) and increased surgical capacity.
The facility is being designed with the ability to add 2 additional ICU beds, expand the Medical/Surgical unit to 28 to 32 beds, add a labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum unit, and a second bed tower. Lang also shared architectural drawings depicting the future look of the new hospital. He then took a few brief questions from attendees.
Next, Lila Jones was introduced as a guest at the meeting. Jones had lived in Drexel. . .
