Local students shoot their way to State Sectionals

The Elks National “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw Contest, sponsored by Cass County Elks #2791, was held last Saturday.
Tayler Lancaster and Trevor Gunnels competed on January 10th in the District Finals held in Harrisonville. The two reached the finals by winning the Cass County Free Throw contest held in December. There, ten other Drexel students competed. Tayler grabbed a first place finish with 21 out of 25 free throws and Trevor finished in first place with 12 out of 25, sending them to the next level.
Tayler, 4th grader at Drexel Elementary, competed in the girls 8-9 year old division, she won the division by hitting 16 out of 25 free throws.
Trevor, a 5th grader at Drexel Elementary, competed in the boys 10-11 year old division. Trevor took second place by hitting 12 out of 25 free throws. By winning second place in his division Trevor will be the alternate. If the first place winner cannot attend the sectional finals, Trevor will step in.
The winners of each age group will travel to St. Louis to compete in the state sectional finals on February 7th. Tayler and her family will be going to St. Louis, sponsored by the Cass County Elks #2791. If she wins sectional, the next step will be Regionals and then on to Nationals.
