Enthusiasm and support for the newly implemented Rotational Mobile Recycling Program in Cass County was evident with the nearly five tons of recyclable materials collected in the first month of operation. Frequent comments such as, “I’m so glad you’re here!” and “We’ve needed this for so long,” provided further evidence of Cass Countians’ enthusiasm for the new recycling program.
Recyclers of all ages with a number of entire families recycled in each of the four locations and many have added their names to a list to be contacted as future volunteer monitors of the recycling centers.
Volunteer monitors help unload recyclables and provide information to recyclers about accepted materials. For instance, no plastic bags of any kind can be accepted; all lids have to be removed from bottles and are not accepted since they are not recyclable. Also, plastic toys and Styrofoam cannot be recycled. Other items that cannot be accepted are containers from automotive products and pesticide or fertilizer containers.
Volunteers also help inform about the need to rinse food containers to prevent contaminating other recyclable materials.
Accepted materials are: aluminum and steel cans, newspaper, office paper and junk mail, shredded paper in paper bags, paperboard (cereal boxes, etc), corrugated cardboard (flattened), magazines and catalogs, telephone books, paperback and hardback books, plastics No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Glass is not accepted at this time.
