Drexel School Board discusses vo-ag building specifics, more to come

The Drexel R-IV Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at the school. The unapproved minutes of the meeting are as followed: The meeting was called to order by President Christyne Hellebuyck. Members present were: President Christyne Hellebuyck, Vice President Brad Lancaster, Treasurer Kim Hocker, Members Chuck Martin, Ronnie Jacobs, Brenda Hadley and Chris Collins, Superintendent Dr. Judy Stivers, Elementary Principal Jeff Levy, JH/HS Principal Robbie Shepherd and Secretary Linda Moles. Visitors present were: Tyler Black, Lorrie Wilson, Dea Ackermann, Kelly Sims, Elaine Hamilton, Judy Daniel, Brenda Meerkatz and Kim Winswick.
Motion to approve the consent agenda, consisting of approval of proposed agenda and previous minutes, approval of warrant report, authorization of payment of bills, and approval of financial summary of funds, was made by Ronnie Jacobs, seconded by Kim Hocker and carried unanimously.
CTA President, Dea Ackermann, presented members with copies of the proposed policy regarding collective bargaining. All of the 63% of the teachers responding to the committee’s proposed policy were in favor. Dr. Stivers and the Board have been working with the CTA, Missouri State Teachers Association and an attorney looking for a collaborative effort to compose the best possible policy for all concerned.
At this time, Principal Levy gave his report to the board: Drexel Elementary has eight children who will qualify for tutoring. This is down from the 16 students who qualified last year.
All STAR and DRA assessments was administered by December 22 so students could work within their new levels when returning from break. Information received indicates the children are growing as readers, and using the strategies of good readers.
