Drexel FFA Chapter celebrates first year


The Drexel FFA Chapter held its first annual FFA Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at the Drexel Community Center. Approximately 120 people consisting of members, parents and community guests were in attendance for this event.
The evening began with a meal of Branding Iron pork and beef; and side dishes prepared by member parents. Chapter officers marched into the award ceremony and conducted the official FFA opening ceremonies. President Lauren Moles welcomed the guests and Chaplain-elect Brett Moles gave the invocation. Following the invocation, chapter officers conducted the honorary member ceremony and awarded Dr. Judy Stivers, School Superintendent the honor of the first honorary member of the Drexel chapter. Honorary membership is presented to farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of board of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, business people and others who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA and who have rendered outstanding service. Individuals are elected to honorary membership by a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting.

Honorary membership is one of the four types of FFA membership. Members who received the highest award for first year members were: left to right, Jared Jacobs, Star Greenhand in Agri-Business; Luke Bartholomew, Star Greenhand in Production and Andy Sutcliffe, Star Greenhand in Agricultural Placement.
