Council reviews properties to be condemned
Several people were in attendance at last Monday nights’ Drexel City Council meeting, but only three councilmen. Sue Wishon was absent.
After making a few changes to the agenda, such as additional presentations and a building permit approval, Mayor Reece and council reviewed addresses on Main in need of condemning, a house at 319 E. Main and a garage at 213 E. Main. Mayor Reece explained that these property owners had been contacted regarding the buildings and that they were both willing to take necessary steps on the issues at hand. Mayor Reece asked if there were any comments on these condemnations or anyone hear to speak on these matters. No one stated any concerns or issues and these matters were closed.
Several presentations were given to the council:
Tyler Black and Jim Welborn, representatives of the Drexel Community Betterment Corporation (DCBC) addressed council that they would be willing to volunteer to help the city with the “Welcome to Drexel” project at the triangle, near the north entrance to town. They also stated that DCBC will be holding a barbeque contest in the park on Main St. on June 6, coinciding with the City Wide Garage Sale.
Jennifer Duncan of Entercom addressed options to improve the city website. She will return with numbers and options for the redesign at a later date.
Sody Geuy of the United Methodist Church spoke on behalf of the church and problems they are having with drainage through a tin horn near the property. It was decided that the city would investigate the problem further.
