Council holds regular monthly meeting, ordinances approved

Council takes another step toward completion in the Safe Routes to School project.

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, November 9th. The meeting was held at City Hall.
Citizens present were: Cindy Orton, Ellie Orton, Paul Orton, and Paul Orton Jr., Janice South, and Robert Zimmerman. Presenters present were: B.T. Webb, Holly Stark, Debbie Thomas, and Tyson Markum. City Staff present were: Public Works Superintendent Martin Doughty, Water Technician Russ Ream, Police Chief Jon Carpenter, and City Clerk Kara Smith. Mayor Kenneth Reece, Alderwoman Sue Wishon, Alderman Terry Mayfield, Mayor Pro-Tem Doug Musick and Alderman Kevin Shannon were all in attendance.
Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Reece reminded the Council of the Water System Improvement Bid, which would open at City Hall on Friday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. He also informed the Council of two Sunshine Law informational sessions which would take place next week. He suggested to Council to get the details from the City Clerk if they wished to attend.
Mayor Reece asked for approval of the agenda. Alderman Musick made a motion to approve the agenda. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mayfield and was approved by a 4-0 vote of the council.
Next, Mayor Reece introduced B.T. Webb. Webb spoke on behalf of the Drexel Golf Association. He gave the Council an overview of their progress this year and asked Council to consider them in the upcoming budget planning. Webb specifically asked for $3,600 so they may purchase equipment for the golf course.
Next, Debbie Thomas spoke as the owner of the Drexel Bar & Grill and asked that the Council give her permission for a Class D Liquor License. After review of the current City Ordinance and the licensing requirements for both the State and the City, Alderman Shannon made a motion to approve the Drexel Bar & Grill for a Class D City Liquor License. Alderman Musick seconded the motion, which was approved with a 4-0 vote of the Board.
