Council hears of FFA plans for city lake

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, January 12, 2009. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall.
Citizens present were: Tammy Bartholomew, Dennis Deel, Sody Geuy, Judy Houseman, Marcella Johnston, Bob Miller, Louise Musick, Ruth Osborn, Boyd Smith, Janice South, Jim Wallace, and Mary Wallace.
City Staff present were: Chief of Police Jon Carpenter, Public Works Superintendent Martin Doughty, City Treasurer Peggy Moles, and City Clerk Kara Smith.
Mayor Kenneth Reece, Alderman Sue Bush-Wishon, Alderman Terry Mayfield, Alderman Gale Allman, and Mayor Pro Tem Doug Musick were all in attendance.
Alderman Bush-Wishon stated that she had several items to be discussed under Old Business. Following a notation, Alderman Allman made a motion to approve the agenda. The motion was seconded by Alderman Musick and was approved by a 4-0 vote.
Dennis Deel was present to discuss the Fire Department, however, Deel stated that he did not need to address the council at this time, as he had been in contact with Mayor Reece regarding the need for volunteers at the Fire Department.
Mayor Reece welcomed Tammy Bartholomew and introduced her as the Agriculture Teacher and sponsor of the newly formed FFA group at Drexel School. Bartholomew expressed her desire that in the future the students be given the opportunity to come before the council and discuss the projects by which they are working. She articulated the importance of these types of experiences for the children with their community. She further stated the FFA group, in search for projects, which could give them a more hands-on approach to learning, suggested they may conduct a few projects at the old lake. She reported to Council that the students have applied for the United Sportsman’s League Grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation.
