Council discusses ordinance, building permits at meeting

Discussion to continue before issuance of a parade ordinance.

very short Drexel City Council meeting, discussing the proposed parade ordinance, building permits and water improvements, was held Monday night at City Hall with the following Board of Aldermen present: Sue Bush-Wishon, Kevin Shannon, Terry Mayfield and Mayor Kenneth Reece. Visitors were Janice South, Stacy Rice, Patty Dreher, Patsy Stewart, Debbie Thomas, Chad Harrington and Jennifer and Bobbie Thomas. City employees present were Peggy Moles, Martin Doughty, Russ Ream, Police Chief Jon Carpenter and City Clerk Kara Smith.
Following the approval of the agenda, Mayor Reece welcomed visitors and got down to business with a brief update on the water improvements by Larkin Groups’ Chad Harrington. Harrington stated that the contract awards were recently mailed to the contractors of the project. Council agreed to hold a construction meeting at City Hall on January 27th at 2 p.m.
Next, Janice South made a public comment in opposition of the “electric meter” talk. Alderman Shannon stated that Drexel has to spend the money that was allocated. Electric meters are a suggestion, but council has not approved the purchase. Shannon also stated that there are several pros to having the upgraded meters.
