Council approves ordinance; raise for some city employees
Several visitors were present at last Monday nights’ Drexel City Council meeting. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order with all Board of Aldermen present.
Mayor Reece asked for approval of the agenda at which time Alderwoman Sue Wishon asked to discuss the financial statements. The agenda was approved with a 4-0 vote.
Several presentations were given to the council:
John Southard of CPSK Insurance gave an overview of the city’s insurance property insurance plan. There were questions by both the council and the citizens regarding specific coverage’s on the policy.
James and Deanna Kinney addressed council. James described a problem with an excessive water bill that they have had. He told council that the bill had already been adjusted to reflect a credit on the sewer and late fees and he requested monthly payment arrangements and reactivation of the water service in his name. Alderwoman Wishon made a motion to accept $50 a month for arrearages, plus the new monthly payment for water turned on in their name. This arrangement was approved by a 4-0 vote of the council.
Georgia DeVrieze described a sewer issue that had taken place at her house. Art Karn demonstrated to council what had been damaged on the connection to the main. Public Works Superintendent Martin Doughty stated that he had provided both the part that needed to be repaired as well as installed it, once Karn had brought the damage to his attention. Council approved by 4-0 vote to pay for 1/2 of the digging price of $225 since Karn had already done this.
