City Council approve building permits, not before fairness in issuance is discussed

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, December 14th. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall. Board of Aldermen present were Mayor Kenneth Reece, Alderwoman Sue Bush-Wishon, Alderman Terry Mayfield, Mayor Pro-Tem Doug Musick and Alderman Kevin Shannon. Citizens present were Frank Knapick, Stacy Rice, and Janice South. Presenters present were Paul Barbee, Patty Dreher, Chad Harrington, and Darren Stark. City Staff present were Public Works Superintendent Martin Doughty, Police Officer Dylan Allison, Police Chief Jon Carpenter, and City Clerk Kara Smith.
Mayor Reece informed the Council of a building permit that would need to be added to the agenda and asked for approval of the agenda as amended. Alderman Musick made a motion to approve the agenda as amended. The motion was seconded by Alderman Mayfield and was approved by a 4-0 vote of the council.
Chad Harrington, Larkin Group, gave an update on the water system improvements. He stated that recent bids came in at $400,000-$500,000 under budget allowing for additional improvements. Harrington gave council choices of electronic metering, improving some 2-4” lines to 6” in town, adding fire hydrants, and the addition of more valves on transmission lines. Councilman Shannon asked for pros and cons of the electric metering of which Harrington explained. The pros: finding leaks sooner and allows for easier meter reading access due to inclement weather conditions. The only con Harrington expressed was that they are costly.
Next, Patty Dreher asked Council to consider an ordinance for parade routes and the clearing of the streets for such events. Council agreed to consider such an ordinance at their next Board meeting.
Paul Barbee of Mike Keith Insurance gave a review of an insurance option available to the City. He asked that the Council review this as an option when renewing their insurance coverage.
Mayor Reece then asked if there was a motion to approve the consent agenda. Alderman Musick made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda. The motion was seconded by Alderman Shannon. The motion carried with a 4-0 vote of the Council.
Council approved building permits to the following: Monte Sink, 318 E. Pine, 12x24’ addition on the back of the existing garage; roof line will blend with existing roof and new metal roof to cover all. After review, Alderman Musick made a motion to approve the permit.
