Aldermen approve police vehicle purchase
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel met in Regular Session on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Kenneth Reece, Alderwoman Sue Wishon, Aldermen Terry Mayfield and Mayor Pro Tem Doug Musick were in attendance along with City Clerk Kara Smith, City Treasurer Peggy Moles, Public Works Superintendent Martin Doughty and Police Officer Chuck Steele. Five visitors were present.
The agenda was approved after Alderman Mayfield questioned the minutes to last month’s executive session.
Mike Stivers of the Drexel Pool Board addressed council with a review of the pool season, including financials, as well as possible upgrades that may need to be evaluated at budget time. He announced that the pool would remain open on weekends once school started until September 6th. He also commented on an upcoming fund raiser planned at the pool. Mayor Reece thanked Stivers and all the members of the Pool Board for their efforts this season.
Next, Stacy Rice addressed council on the upcoming Halloween Fun and Safety Night. She said the event is planned for Saturday evening, October 31st, with time to be announced. There was discussion of the safety issue with cars on Main Street and the possibility of keeping most of the participants between 2nd and 1st on Main, yet still having a walk-up parade for costumed children. Rice stated that she would follow up with other businesses to make this possible. Mayor Reece stated that he thought it was a great event and that he was glad to see it continue. Council agreed.
Next, Chad Harrington of the Larkin Group addressed council and gave an update on the Water System Improvement Project, stating that funds have not yet been distributed.
