Drexel teens get “locked up”

Friday, May 1 found Drexel High School students voluntarily “locked in” for eight hours of fun, food and prizes.
The evening began with a presentation by Sgt. Myers of the Missouri Highway Patrol illustrating the importance of attentive driving, wearing a seat belt, and being substance free. To reinforce that message, Sgt. Myers demonstrated the Convincer, a seat belt simulator.
The rush was on to enjoy the two big games set up in the south gym. The Adrenaline Rush, an inflatable obstacle course, and Gladiator Joust proved popular throughout the night and early morning hours.
A dodge ball tournament, ping-pong, DDR and other sports activities were contested in the north gym. Hard core Bingo fans played through the night, while Rock Band and Guitar Hero musicians rocked out classic tunes.
Pizza, sub sandwiches, fruit, chips and desserts fueled the students. Ice cream sundaes, Gatorade, water and soda cooled them down.
Prize drawings occurred every two hours. Prizes included a flat panel television, mini fridge, MP3 players, food and movie passes, scrapbooking package, Royals tickets, tanning packages, digital cameras, senior portrait setting, a Tony Gonzalez autographed picture, John Deere replica tractor and gift certificates. Each student also received a gift card.
The event ended at 6:00 a.m. with the distribution of “Stop, Drop, Lock In 2009 “ t-shirts and a group picture.
Student ticket sales, fund raising and donations fund the Lock in. A list of donors is displayed on the school web site and is also printed on page 6, the Athletic Page. Please be sure to patronize these local businesses. Their generosity is greatly appreciated.
