High School youth tour State Capital during Farm Bureau trip

March 26 found more than 300 high school students and their chaperons from 57 counties in attendance at the 15th annual Missouri Farm Bureau (MFB) Youth Leadership Day. Some chaperons and students woke up before 5:00 a.m. for the trip to Jefferson City, said Diane Olson, director of Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education Programs that hosted the event.
After a short orientation at the MFB Center, students were bused to the State Capitol to observe action in the House and Senate. During the orientation, MFB President Charles Kruse stressed to the students the importance of sharing their views with legislators. From how to use federal stimulus funds to proposed changes in county planning and zoning, Kruse said it is important legislators hear from their constituents, including students. During an active day at the Capitol, most legislators were able to step away from House and Senate chambers to talk with students.
