Building permit approved at special meeting
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Special Session on Monday, January 8th at City Hall. Mayor Terry Mayfield, Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin Shannon via speaker telephone, Alderman Bob Thomas, Alderman Darrell Gilbert, and Alderman Mike Wheeler were in attendance. Citizen present was Stacy Rice. Presenters present were Craig and Jennifer Gundy of Gundy Construction, and Chad Harrington and Tony O’Malley of Larkin Group. City Staff present was City Clerk Ashley Kasper, City Treasurer Peggy Moles, Chief of Police Jon Carpenter, Water Technician Russ Ream, and Kara Smith.

Hoop Shooters score high in second round
These two young basketball enthusiasts from Drexel earned the privilege to advance to the next level of the National Hoop Shooting Free Throw Contest that was held last Saturday in Warrensburg, MO at Warrensburg Middle School. Both competed among several competitors at the regional level in early December, winning their divisions. Tayler Lancaster, a 7th grader, finished 2nd in the 12-13 year-old class with 17 free throws made out of 25. Cole Barnhart, a 5th grader, also finished 2nd in the 10-11 year-old class making 17 out of 25 shots.
Board agrees to help with finances to ag building; new classes introduced next year
The Drexel R-IV Board of Education met on Monday, January 16th at 6:30 p.m. for the monthly meeting. Members in attendance were: President Christyne Hellebuyck, Vice President Brad Lancaster, Treasurer Chris Collins, Members Kim Hocker, Ronnie Jacobs, Brenda Hadley, and Paul Orton, Superintendent Bill Johnston, Principal Ken Shipps and Laurie Jacklovich, and Secretary Linda Moles. Visitors were Stacy Rice, Harold Seba, Tammy Bartholomew, and Cindy Drury.
President Hellebuyck called the meeting to order, which was opened by the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
