Dear Editor and residents:
Let’s talk swimming pool.
My stand on the swimming pool is that it is one of our most important assets the city owns! It is long been providing this community with a multitude of benefits. Besides being a wonderful and safe place to hang during hot days, it keeps our kids under supervision and out of mischief, besides the medical advantage of wearing off some of that energy.
With that said I want to thank those new volunteers that have stepped up to the plate to make the 2009 season a reality. The new volunteers are working on a firm foundation that has been passed around to many individuals over the last 30 years. It is ONLY because of their diligence that we do have the facility we do today. Thank you.
I have included a copy of Ordinance 509, a contract between the City and the Pool Board, which was required to be signed by the previous administration. My question to you is... Do we require that the swimming pool board sign another contract? This was mandatory for the opening of the pool in 2008.
I am in favor of requiring some kind of agreement/contract going in as to who and what is expected of each party. Without documentation what recourse do you have if you disapprove of any action? Please don’t get me wrong, I am not expecting anything. I just need to know do you want the current way of doing business to continue and require a contract, or not?
My question becomes this:
Do you want a permanent ordinance requiring some documentation between the City of Drexel and the Drexel Area Pool Association (DAPRI) renewable each year concerning who is responsible for the operation of the swimming pool and to name one person to report to the city on behalf of the group?
Let me know your thoughts,
