Lady Cats win two

On Tuesday of last week the Lady Cats traveled to Cass Midway to do battle with the Lady Vikings. The game started very slow as the score after one quarter was Drexel 4, Midway 5. At half time the low scoring continued but the Lady Cats had “powered” into the lead at 10 to 9.
The second half continued much the same as the first with the Lady Cats holding the lead after 3 quarters at 20 to Midway’s 16.
The winner was in doubt the entire game with Drexel missing the front end of one and one free throws toward the end of the game. With 5 seconds left and Drexel’s lead only by two, freshman Jessi Gunnels stepped to the line and converted both shots thus putting the game out of reach for Midway, the final score being Lady Cats 27, Lady Vikings 23.
Team statistics: field goals 26%, free throws 46%, Assists 9, Rebounds 35 with 8 steals and 19 turnovers.
Team leaders in scoring were Gunnels 5, McAnany 4, Freeman, Kendrick, Moles and Shipley each with 2. Rebounding: Gunnels a nice 17 and McAnany 11. Gunnels, Russell, Freeman, McAnany and Hocker all had assists. Gunnels had 3 steals and Moles 2.
