Lady Cats finish 3rd

The Lady Bobcats competed against a scrappy group of Lady Knights from Barstow on Monday night of the Archie Tournament last week. The teams were evenly matched as the scoring will indicate. At the end of the first quarter they were knotted at 12. Drexel took a 25 to 19 lead into half time but came out in the third quarter unable to find the range for 7 minutes and 42 seconds scoring only 2 points. With 18 seconds left in the 3rd, Barstow had tied the score at 27. Drexel received the ball at half court on a Lady Knight turnover. Russell drives for a contested lay-up, scores while being fouled and finishes the three point play at the foul line. This gave the ladies a 30-27 lead going into the final quarter. With 4 minutes left in the game, Russell fouled out and the score was again tied at 35. The rest of the team filled in the vacant starter’s spot and did an admirable job finishing the game with a final winning score of 47-45. The game was in doubt until the final seconds when Chelle McAnany fouled with the score tied. She calmly converted both free throws and that advanced the Lady Bobcats into the winners bracket for a second meeting of the season with the powerful Lady Blackhawks of Adrian.
