Lady Cats dominate Chilhowee

By RICHARD HETTINGER
On Friday night, February 12th, the Lady Cats entertained the Chilhowee Lady Indians. Maybe entertain is not the right word as the Lady Indians didn’t seem to be enjoying the evening.
Kendrick started the scoring with a 2 and later Gunnels gets a put back. Most of the first quarter was spent on the Drexel offensive end of the court as the Lady Cats did not allow the Lady Indians to cross mid court very often. Kendrick gets a steal and 2 points from 8 feet, Hotsenpiller a steal then an inbounds pass from Freeman to Kendrick for 2 more. Hotsenpiller another steal and pass to Freeman gives the Lady Cats 2 more. Steals by Freeman and Hocker create more turnovers by Chilhowee and Gunnels gets an assist when she passes to an open Freeman. The score has quickly grown to 12 zip at the 4 minute mark of the first quarter. Later Hocker goes to the line for 1 of 2, Vlieger gets a nice block out on the defensive glass and quickly starts another fast break with her out let pass to Sanders and then to Williams for 2. Vlieger with an offensive glass and converts with a nice turn around from 6 feet and the lead has quickly grown to 19-4 after one full period.
The Lady Cats continue their press into the second quarter as Hotsenpiller steals the ball and Hocker gets a put back and Gunnels gets two more baskets, one from the base line and another from 10 feet. Vlieger scores three times with a put back, a good inbounds pass from Sanders and later scores 2 of 2 from the line. Sanders scores a three, gets a steal and Vlieger to Kaufman who swishes one from 10 feet. Williams comes up with a steal and the half ends with Drexel having a commanding lead of 36-14.
