The Drexel Bobcats came growling when they hit the hardwood last Tuesday evening in Bear country. But it wasn’t enough. The Bobcats, after two wins the week priot, were flying high and were somewhat stymied on their drive for a successful season in the 2009-2010 basketball season. J. Roberts started the scoring with a pass from Cooley then a fast break from Cooley to Moles to J. Roberts produced another 2. Seba gets a rebound and put back but Butler pulls ahead with 8 points including a couple threes. Cooley makes a steal but no conversion while Hadley sacrifices his body and draws a foul against Butler. Cooley 1 of 2 from the line and Allen drives for a 2. Butler continues to hit free throws and another 3. Moles gets a rebound and put back and Cooley drives for 2 and the first quarter finds the Bobcats trailing 13-19.
J. Roberts gets 2 more with an assist from Russell and Wilson scores from 10 feet. Fouls are piling up and Butler is taking advantage making all 8 of their first 8 free throws. Cooley drives for another 2 and Moles makes a steal, Seba makes a three to pull the Bobcats back to within 5 at 22-27, but Butler converts 2 free throws and gets the ball back to score a 3 thus stopping the attempted drive to get back into the game. Half time score Bears 36, Bobcats 22.
The second half finds Cooley stealing the ball and scoring on a coast to coast lay up. The next drive to the basket Cooley is fouled and makes 2 of 2. J. Roberts with a rebound and put back, then he scores two more baskets and makes 1 of 2 from the line. Looking up at the scoreboard, it shows Drexel already over the limit of 10 fouls and Butler with only 4 and there is still 4:20 left in the game. Seba scores another three and a lay up while Thomas hits 2 of 2 from the line but it is all too little too late as the Bears continue to shoot well, not only from the field but also from the line, taking the Bobcats down to defeat 41 to 62.
J. Roberts led the team in scoring with 13 while Cooley and Seba each had 9. The Bobcats could not seem to find the range all evening. Even from the line, they only made 6 of 16 for a not so good 38% while the Bears were sizzling at 80% making 20 of 25 attempts.
