Drexel baseball heads to Hume
The Bobcat Baseball Team traveled to Hume to do battle in a Round Robin Tournament last week. On Thursday, April 23rd they matched up with the home team Hornets. Hume has a brother pitching team from the Austin Family. Zach started the game and was relieved by his brother, Ryan. Both are strong pitchers. In fact, Ryan’s pitches have been clocked at 90 m.p.h. and he has signed a letter of intent to pitch for the Pittsburg Gorillas.
Needless to say, it was a tough evening for our Bobcat hitters. Blake Seba and Austin Allen did a fine job pitching for the Bobcats holding Hume to only 4 runs in the seven inning game. That was all that the Hornets needed as the Austin brothers shut out the Bobcats in winning by the final of 4-0.
Keifer Shipley and Alec Young were the only Bobcats to scratch out a hit. Shipley, a single in the first inning and Young in the third.
Drexel played a nice game in the field only committing 3 errors. Two of those errors led to 2 runs in the third. All in all a very good game on the part of pitching and fielding but the Bobcats could not produce any runs against the outstanding pitching of the Hornets.
Drexel played a double header in back to back games on Thursday. They met up with the North East Vernon County team just 30 minutes after being defeated by Hume.
Brett Freeman and Jarad Jacobs were the pitchers in the second game of the evening. They also did a fine job in holding NEVC to just 4 runs on 8 hits.
The Bobcats came alive in this game scoring 12 runs with 11 hits. Alec Young had the hot hand with a double, a triple and two walks scoring one run and knocking in 5. Blake Seba had 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs. Kiefer Shipley had a base hit and an RBI. Jared Jacobs also had a single and an RBI. Dayton Antley had a single and a run scored. Brett Freeman a single and two runs. Kurtis McLellan scored one run. Cody Breuer had 2 hits and was tops in crossing home plate as he did so 4 times. Will Robert had a hit and a run. Kenny Beck and Ashton Raffety also played but did not score.
