Cass Midway Vikings outscore Drexel Bobcats in season opener

The Bobcats, with their new quarterback and almost completely new coaching staff, made the short trip to Cass-Midway last Friday to do battle with the Vikings. It may have been a short trip but turned out to be a long night for the Bobcats. The first series was a wash as neither team was able to move the ball. It looked a little like it might be a defensive battle but as in most football games, the complexion of the game soon changed. After the Vikings had scored a couple touchdowns to go ahead 14 to 0, Drexel came back with a very exciting play of their own when quarterback Blake Seba spotted Alec Young in the open and completed a 66 yard pass play. After the completion, Young finished the play running the rest of the 35 or so yards for the Bobcats first touchdown of the 2009 season. Keifer Shipley added the extra point making the score Midway 14 and Drexel 7 with the clock showing 10 minutes and 23 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. This made everything look like the Bobcats were back in the game. Not so, as that was the only score of the evening for Drexel. Midway was able to exploit weaknesses they discovered in both the Bobcat’s secondary and their offensive line. This resulted in the Bobcat quarterback scrambling to make a play the rest of the evening, while the Vikings were completing passes all over the field for big plays thus resulting in the final score of 46-7.
