Bobcats are unwelcomed visitors in Tiger territory

By RICHARD HETTINGER
Friday night, October 2nd, was a perfect night for football and with the moon eerily creeping behind some passing clouds it might have seemed to the Tigers that evil lurked in every corner as they were unable to get untracked the entire evening while facing the Bobcats. Captains Hargreaves, J. Roberts, Hadley and McMahan were chosen to kick off by the coin flip. A nice kick by Allen and good special team efforts pinned the Tigers on their own 9 yard line. Forcing a punt, the Bobcats took over on the Tiger 33. With good blocking by J. Roberts, West, Page and Allen, that left a gaping hole in the Tiger line, allowing Shipley to cover the 33 yards in two rushing plays and taking the ball in for the first touchdown of the evening. He also kicked the extra point making the score Drexel 7, R.H. 0 with only 2 minutes and 34 seconds off the clock.
After another nice kick by Allen, Hadley stops the Tigers’ return on their 22. Good defense again gives the Bobcats the ball at mid field. After a nice pass play and 2 rushing plays, Drexel is again into the red zone on the 7 yard line. Kiefer takes the ball in from there and adds the extra point. Bobcats 14-Tigers 0 with 4:42 still left in the first quarter. Rich Hill takes over and on 3rd and 14, J. Roberts throws the runner for another 14 yard loss. Rich Hill punts but aggressive play costs the Bobcats a little field position on their own 40. Drexel again moves the ball but trying for extra yardage Thomas lost the ball on the 2 yard line where the Tigers take over. Thomas quickly redeems himself with an interception and Drexel again moves the ball with a QB keeper by Seba taking the ball down to the 12. Next play Seba scores a touchdown but is called back with a holding penalty. This brings up 3rd and 22. On fourth down Shipley attempts a 40 yard field goal that comes up just short.
The Tigers attempt a long pass in their series that is tipped nicely by D. Blan right into the hands of Seba for the interception. Again with good blocking by the offensive line, Hadley takes a pitchout from Seba for another TD, this time covering 35 yards. With Shipley’s PAT the score moves to 21-0 Bobcats and the clock shows 6:36 left in the first half. R.H. takes over on their 25. After QB sack by West and Cooley, the Tigers again are forced to punt where Drexel takes over on their own 45. A nine yard pass play to Thomas and a 36 yard TD to Hadley by Seba and Shipley’s PAT the score quickly moves to 28 zip.
An exchange of punts and procedure penalties gives R.H. the ball on the Bobcat 49 but after a QB sack by Roberts and another by McMahan the Tigers are pushed back to their 37. Drexel again gets the ball back but with only 1 second left on the half-time clock. Another nice pass play from Seba to Cooley takes the ball down to the 10 yard line as the half ends.
In the 3rd quarter Drexel looses the ball...
