Baseball season ends
“Adrian was probably our best game of our three final games,” comments Coach Clint Spencer, in reference to the Bobcats’ last games of the season. “Adrian has a very strong team but the Bobcats were able to hold them to a minimal score. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were able to score only one run in defeat.”
In the second to the last game of the season, the boys took on the Butler Bears, a much larger school. “This game was a disaster!” says Spencer. “Our team was up and down all year and this was an extremely down time. We thought we matched up very well with this team talent wise but could not come through either with our bats or in the field.”
The last game of the year was a rematch with Northeast Vernon County, a team that the Bobcats handled rather easily earlier in the season. NEVC jumped off to an early lead and the rest of the game was spent catching up. The Cats had the strong part of their batting order up in the final inning but were unable to connect. This game was eventually lost by the close score of 4 to 5. This loss eliminated Drexel from any additional playoffs in the one game elimination District Tournament and also ended the season for the young Bobcats.
This was the first year of organized baseball at Drexel R-IV. The future looks very bright with the majority of the team being underclassmen and some qualifying freshmen coming in for 2010.
