HALL OF FAME HONORS: The Drexel Star Publishers are inducted into the Missouri Press Association Newspaper Hall of Fame


A family legacy continues as Steve and Linda Oldfield join her parents, Bob and Lila Gunn, as the newest inductees into the Missouri Newspaper Hall of Fame. Last Friday, September 21, Steve and Linda were honored by the Missouri Press Association at the 146th MPA Annual Convention in Columbia, MO.

Settle Ford FFA Trap League

This pas week 13 area FFA trapshooting teams, representing over 80 FFA members and their advisors participated in the Settles Ford FFA Trap League. The Settles Ford FFA Trap league consists of five events that began on September 20 and will conclude on November 15. At each shoot, squads of five competitors will shoot 50 rounds of trap each. At the conclusion of the event the top squads and individuals will be recognized. This event is being held at the Settle Ford Trap Range south of Adrian, MO. off of 71 highway.

Bobcats suffer disappointing 21-42 loss to Midway Vikings


Drexel suffered a disappointing loss Friday night to the Midway Vikings. Mental mistakes and turnovers contributed to Drexel's first loss of the season, 21-42. The Cats running game was crushed by Midway's front line only allowing Drexel 99 total rushing yards for the game.

Thelma Rose Leister and Clifford Michael Leister 1917-2012

Thelma Rose Leister, age 95 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born August 29, 1917 to Harry Francis and Bernice Stokley McFarland in Solomon, KS.
Clifford Michael Leister, age 95 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday September 18, 2012 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, MO. He was born May 8, 1917 to Frank and Emma Froelich Leister in Solomon, KS.

Bessie Geraldine "Gerry" Dalrymple

Bessie Geraldine "Gerry" Dalrymple, age 77, passed away September 19, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation was held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel. Graveside followed visitation at Somerset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Miami County Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice House.

Cross Country teams participate in Drexel and Holden meets


The Drexel Cross Country Team has been training hard and continually improving their personal times. The Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Jr. High teams had runners in the top 15 at each meet. Coach Adrianne Lane described the course for the home meet. "The Drexel Course is 3.1 miles. It starts and finishes at H.T. Smith Park. The majority of it is ran on Drexel's golf course. It is a great run for the kids because it is a straight 3.1 miles with no repeating of the course."

Two WINS for the Lady Bobcats: By Tesa Deel


The Lady Cats hit the road last week traveling to Miami and Sherwood to gain two more victories for their "W" column. Drexel was on top of their game defeating both teams in two games. These wins brought the team's overall record 7-3. Drexel started their week at Miami looking to defeat the Eagles for a third straight time this year. Drexel got the win over the Eagles, 25-6, 25-12......

Bobcats continue winning streak with a victory over the Indians: By Tesa Deel


Drexel dominated host Osceola on the football field by a count of 49-14 in Friday's outing. Drexel received the ball on the opening kickoff with a short gain by Tyler Allen to the 20 yard line. The Cat's offense marched the ball down 80 yards that resulted in a Bobcat touchdown from Quarterback, Javyn Johnston to Wide Receiver Cody Russell on a 4th down. Drexel's coach, Nate Danneman, had extreme confidence in his offense going for the first down two different times on 4th downs. Johnston's PAT was good, 7-0 Drexel.

Drexel pays tribute to the heroes of September 11

September 11, 2012. A day to reflect on this nation's greatest tragedy on American soil. Nineteen terrorists hijacked four passenger jets. Two crashed into the twin towers, one crashed into the Pentagon, and one wad headed for the united States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The attempt to crash into the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. failed when passengers from United Airlines Flight 93 took matters into their own hands. The jet landed in a field near Shanksville, PA.

Lady Bobcats have strong showing in Archie Tournament

The Drexel Lady Cats Volleyball team headed to Archie las Saturday to play in the Annual Archie Volleyball Tournament. The tournament, set up as pool play, and saw the Lady Cats facing Archie at 8:00 a.m. The early morning start didn't seem to bother the Lady Cats as they defeated the Whirlwinds 26-24, and 25-20. Coach Melissa Busch said, "It's always nice to start a tournament off with a win. We seemed to have a lot of bugs to work out, but we pulled through. The win was a great springboard to get us through the rest of play."

Bobcats remain undefeated with 48-19 victory over Whirlwinds

Drexel looked to remain undefeated the past Friday night going up against the Archie Whirlwinds. The Whirlwinds had a record 1-1 going into the game, looking to upset Drexel's perfect record.
The first minutes of the game was very exciting with Drexel and Archie seesawing on the scoreboard. Drexel went on top to start the game with a Bobcat touchdown from Hunter Lindsey.

Bobcats celebrate GRANDPARENTS DAY


In cooperation with Drexel PTO, Drexel Elementary recognized Grandparent's Day on September 7, 2012. The football players escorted grandparents inside the school. Grandparents then found their name tags and awaited a program presented by the students. Music Teacher Mr. Jake Herzog lead the students in song with his guitar.

Women's Health Services Clinics in Cass County

The Women's Health Services Belton Clinics will be held September 5th, 6th, 11th, 19th, 20th, and 25th. The Clinic is located at 119 Congress Street in Belton, MO. Appointments are also available for supply pick up. Harrisonville Clinics will be held September 12th and 26th.

The Lisle Home Club Meets

Eight members of the Lisle Home Club met in the home of Peggy Shipley for a salad luncheon on August 28th. The minutes of the July meeting was read and approved. Louise gave the treasurer's report. The next meeting will be September 25th.

Meet your 2012 Bobcat teams


The Drexel Community came to the North Gym on Tuesday, August 28th, to meet this year's Drexel Bobcats who are playing fall sports. Drexel's Booster Club served up some walking tacos and the latest Drexel Bobcat merchandise on display to sell.

Lady Cats win home opener


The Drexel Volleyball team had their season opener last Tuesday against Lakeland. Drexel defeated Lakeland in 2 games. Drexel did and excellent job taking command of the first game winning 25-19.

Bobcats shut out Adrian Blackhawks 19-0

The Drexel Football team hosted the first home game of the season last Friday against the Adrian Blackhawks. Drexel's defense played outstanding holding Adrian scoreless and got a safety in the final minutes of the game.

If you are a parent of an elementary school student, you might have notices colorful math pages sent home. These colorful math, interactive math pages are from the new math program. Drexel's Elementary principal, Laurie Jacklovich, really took time out to research different programs that are out there.

Board of Aldermen establish new tax levies: by Jennifer Thomas

The Board of Alder men of the City of Drexel met in Special Session on August 27, 2012. Mayor Mayfield called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall. There were no citizens or presenters present. City Staff present was City Clerk Jennifer Thomas. Meters and valves were discussed as new business. The board of Aldermen discussed three quotes for purchasing 10 new valves.

Bobcats open season with blow out victory over Appleton City


Friday, August 23rd the Drexel Bobcats opened their 2012 season as they traveled to Appleton City to take on the Bulldogs. Drexel has many returning starters from 2011 and they have a taste for winning as they were in the playoffs last year. With all that in mind, the Bobcats handled the Bulldogs easily as they scored a 54-14 victory.
