King and Queen of the Prom

Well folks, another prom season has come and gone. With the year flying by, the junior class somehow found
the time to decorate beautifully
for a wonderful night at Deer Creek - where our Junior/Senior prom was held. With the theme “Take my Breath Away,” and decorations the color of pretty pink, it was no wonder guests at the Promenade had trouble
catching their breath.

Aldermen approve many building permits

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, April 12th, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Drexel sets to update information records on residents

The City of Drexel Public Works Department is currently updating their customer records. They are asking that all water and sewer customers take a few minutes to fill out the form that was recently sent to all residents.
The completed forms may then be dropped off at City Hall during regular business hours, left in the drop box on the east side of the building, or mailed to P.O. Box 710, Drexel, MO 64742.

Sandra May Miller 1947-2010

Sandra May Miller, 63, of Drexel, MO, formerly of Chillicothe, MO, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe.
Burial in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, MO.
A visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Irvin G. Thompson 1939-2010

Irvin G. Thompson, 70, of Drexel, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler.
Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel. A graveside service followed the visitation at 2:30 p.m. in Sharon Cemetery near Drexel. Written messages may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Baseball team wins on the road

Traveling was the name of the game last week when the Drexel Bobcats took the baseball team on the road for two straight days of game contests. The local club first traveled to Hume to contest their skills last Thursday, April 15th.
Drexel held a 4-0 lead well into the 5th inning when Hume scored for the first time. The Bobcats were held from putting runs on the scoreboard again until the 7th inning where they and the Hornets both put three more tally’s each on the board.

Drexel Golf Team has successful matches

The Drexel Golf Team had a successful outing Wednesday, April 14th. The match was between Drexel, Archie and Green Ridge.
Kody Kaufman received a first place medal and Justin Thomas a second.
The Drexel varsity team consisting of Kody, Justin, Cody Russell, Keifer Shipley and Chris Wilson won the match with  a team score of 158.
The junior varsity team made up of CJ Bolton, Ashton Raffety, Alec Young, Lonnie West and Cody Hargreaves posted some of their lowest scores of the season.

CCCED to meet in Drexel

The next CCCED General Membership Meeting will be hosted by CCCED Board Member, David Alburty of AlburtyLab and InnovaPrep.
Dave will of his recent trip to Japan with the Missouri Department of Economic Development to participate in BioJapan, one of the largest bio-science trade shows in the world.
The meeting will be at noon on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Drexel Community Center (southeast corner of East Bates Street (Highway 18) and 4th Street)
The Board of Directors meeting is at 11 a.m. at the same location.

Adrian pins down Lady Bobcats

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks came to town last Tuesday, April 6th, and showed no mercy in defeating our Lady Bobcats 15 to zip in only 4 innings.
Katie Hocker pitched all 4 innings.
Jessica Sanders was the only Lady Bobcat to get a hit.
Marissa Bauer was able to draw two walks and steal a base.

Blackhawks leave their mark on local field

The Drexel Bobcats Baseball Team hosted the Adrian Blackhawks last Tuesday evening.
The game did not start off good for the local ball club as the neighboring rivals scored 14 of their 17 total runs in the first two innings of play. The Bobcats were held scoreless until the 4th inning when three runs were recorded and another in the fifth. Drexel walked away with a 17-4 loss over the Blackhawks.

The Drexel Community Betterment Corporation met last Tuesday evening, March 30th, for their regular monthly meeting.
The evening’s snacks were sponsored by Dr. Marc Finke and the Drexel Pharmacy. Sandwiches, chips and chocolate cookies for dessert were offered. Those present were Alderwoman Sue Bush-Wishon, Patsy Stewart, Patty Dreher, Joe Ziegler, Marc Finke, Rob Swearingen, Darrell Gilbert, Greg Mullinax, Anita Brown, Lila Jones, Dixie and Gene Allen, Jim and Carol Welborn, Aubry Deal and Dave Alburty.

Drexel voters went to the polls Tuesday making big decisions. Decisions that decided the reorganization of two prominent boards; Drexel’s Board of Aldermen and Drexel Board of Education. Below are the preliminary results from the election.

Lady Cats lose in first softball game

The weather finally cooperated enough to get in the first ball game of the spring. The Sherwood Lady Marksmen came to visit last Wednesday and the game turned out to be a run producer as there were 42 scored.
Sherwood scored first with 3 in the first inning.
The Lady Cats came back with four of their own in the bottom of the second but unfortunately Sherwood scored 10 more in this round.

Next time Sherwood may want to bring their men and not send their boys to play a man’s game as they were thumped by the Bobcats 18- zip in the home opener game last Wednesday.
Alec Young and Blake Seba each pitched 3 shut out innings with some good fielding help from the rest of the Bobcats. They both had good control for this early in the season giving up only 7 walks, striking out 5 each and only allowing 2 hits in the six inning game.
Ashton Raffety, Blake Seba (a single and a double), Austin Allen, Dayton Antley and Will Roberts all had 2 hits.

Meet your Candidates; Vote April 6

Next Tuesday voters will head to the polls to vote in candidates for Drexel’s Board of Alderman and Drexel’s Board of Education. This week features the candidates and incumbents, all vying for the thankless positions.

Local coach chosen to coach All Star game

The Drexel Lady Bobcat Coach will be honored to be assistant coach in the Missouri State East-West All Star Game. Coach Adrianne Lane and Arnie Drendel of Leeton will be leading the West All Stars when they meet the East All Stars on June 12th at 7:00 p.m. The game will be held in the field house at Central Methodist University in Marshall, Missouri.
In 2011, Coach Lane will again be honored as head coach for this game.

Bobcat boys coach honored

Coach Dennis Bolton was recently honored as Class I District 8 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. Coach Bolton led his 2009-2010 Bobcats to a record of 20 wins and 8 losses including third place in the conference tournament, first place in the Linn County Invitational and finishing off with a nice District Championship. This was an improvement over 2008-2009 when the Bobcats had a 3 wins and 19 loss season.
