Shop with a Cop/Firefighter program receives donations

Recently, Drexel’s Chief of Police Jon Carpenter was presented with a check in the amount of $1,000 to go toward the Shop with a Cop/Firefighter Program from Harrisonville Wal-Mart. Also pictured: Store Manager David Blankenship and Ann Hammonds, Personnel Manager. In addition, Casey’s General Store of Drexel donated $150 toward the program.

Approval granted to move forward in agriculture building project

School Board approves next step in getting vo ag building.

The Drexel Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, November 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at the school. members present were: President Christyne Hellebuyck, Vice President Brad lancaster, Treasurer Kim Hocker, Members Chuck Martin, Ronnie Jacobs, Brenda Hadley and Chris Collins, Superintendent Dr. Judy Stivers, Elementary Principal Jeff Levy, JH/HS Principal Robbie Shepherd, and Secretary to the Board, Linda Moles. Several visitors were in attendance at the meeting.

Hocker, Spencer wed

Hallie Elizabeth Hocker and Eli Crossland Spencer were united in marriage July 18, 2009 in Drexel, Missouri. Hallie is the daughter of Randy and Kim Hocker of Drexel, Missouri and Eli is the son of Dwight and Jeanette Spencer of Gardner, Kansas. Eli and Hallie met in 2005 through some mutual friends while at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. Hallie graduated with a BA in Communication (Public Relations) and Eli graduated with a BSE in Elementary Education. They now reside in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ina Lee Varns 1917-2009

Ina Lee Varns, age 92 of Butler, Missouri died November 21, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born February 22, 1917 to Blueford and Nellie Theresa Koon Howard in Bates County, Missouri.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri with Rev. Art Ellsworth officiating. Burial, Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions, Ohio Street United Methodist Church. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

An evening of fun and games was conducted by the Drexel Bobcat Booster Club Friday evening, November 20th. Cake Walk, Free Throw Shooting, Three Point Shooting, 50-50, and Dash for Cash were some of the favorites.

ednesday, November 11, 2009 was Veteran’s Day! As tribute to the nation’s veterans, Drexel R-IV hosted an assembly and invited area veterans to attend. The entire school was also in attendance.
The assembly kicked off with Jeff Levy, the elementary principal, welcoming everyone and thanking them for coming. When he was finished, he introduced Annie Orton, a junior, to sing the National Anthem.

Council holds regular monthly meeting, ordinances approved

Council takes another step toward completion in the Safe Routes to School project.

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, November 9th. The meeting was held at City Hall.

Marjorie Lucille Kueser 1927-2009

Marjorie Lucille Kueser, age 82, of Louisburg, KS, passed away on November 16, 2009, at her home.
Marge was born July 26, 1927 in Parker, KS, to Ed and Josephine Wheeler Henry. She married Harold J. Kueser, Sr. on November 3, 1951, in Bentonville, AR, and they were married for 51 years.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 606 S. Elm, Louisburg, KS, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Louisburg. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church.

Sally A. Murphy 1942-2009

Sally A. Murphy, 67 of Drexel, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Olathe Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel, with the Rev. Dr. Marilyn Niemeyer officiating. Burial followed in Sharon Cemetery near Drexel.
