Drexel’s Board of Aldermen approve building permit refunds
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in regular session on August 11, 2008. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at city hall.
Citizens present were Stacy Rice, Sheila Reece, Boyd Smith, Janice South, and Raymond Fink.
City staff present were: police officer Charles Steele, Water Technician Russ Ream, City Treasurer Peggy Moles, City Clerk Kara Smith, and City Administrator Michael Fisher.
Drexel bank identified in the nationwide Top 20
Citizens Bank was recently recognized by the Independent Community Bankers Association as being among the Top 20 Banks in the United States (under 50 million in assets) for Performance in 2007.

Missouri cracks down on impaired driving
On August 8, 2008, a lineup of .08 presents the opportunity to send a strong message to impaired drivers: You Drink & Drive. You Lose.
The statewide campaign aimed at stopping motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is sponsored by the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety and kicks off Aug. 8. Advertising and enforcement begins the following week and continues through Labor Day.
Midnight Madness Showdown
The Drexel Bobcats came alive during the annual Midnight Madness event last Thursday morning. Several area residents ventured out for the midnight special to get a close up introduction of this years’ varsity football team. Led by Head Coach Jerod Boyles and emceed by Athletic Director Dennis Bolton, the squad of twenty-two took to the field for scrimmage runs and drills. Nonstop play action and practice drills keep the sleepy crowd alert. Good luck to the Bobcats and Coaching staff as they make the trek toward a record setting and much successful season.
Cass Medical Center names McElwain as Employee of the Quarter
Becky McElwain, LPN, was recently named Cass Medical Center’s Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2008. Glenda Percival, chief nursing officer, made the announcement in the Cass Medical Center Cafeteria on Tuesday, July 29.
McElwain has been employed by Cass Medical Center since November of 1983 and works full-time as an LPN on the Medical/Surgical Unit.

Clyde E. Napton 1923-2008
Clyde E. Napton passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the Adrian Manor in Adrian, Mo., at the age of 85 after spending his entire life farming.
Clyde was born March 15, 1923 at the Napton Farm near Drexel to Frank and Lizzie Ethel (Williams) Napton. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 15. He attended the Calvert School.

Attorney General Jay Nixon met this week with a Saint Louis-area family and several small-business owners to discuss the skyrocketing costs of health care these past few years. Attorney General Nixon highlighted his plan to use market forces and technology to drive down the cost of coverage for families and businesses.

Thomas named MVP in World Series, all-star team player
The KC Dynasty, 18 and under girls fastpitch softball team, recently completed their summer season with a 13th place finish in the USSSA National World Series held at Adair Park in Independence, Mo. The World Series featured teams from all across the country.
The Dynasty finished 4 and 2 in bracket play to claim the upper level finish. Prior to the World Series the team had competed every weekend except one since Memorial Day posting a record of 31 and 21 and reaching the finals in 4 of 7 tournaments.

Forming a park board discussed at DCBC meeting
The Drexel Community Betterment Corporation, better known as D.C.B.C., met for their regular monthly meeting immediately following the noon whistle on Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 at the Drexel Community Center.

Leo F. Alexander 1914-2008
Leo F. Alexander, 93, formerly of Drexel, Mo., passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler, Mo. Leo was born September 20, 1914 in Aurora, Mo., the son of Ollie Clay and Amanda (Applegate) Alexander.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel. Memorial contributions in Leo’s memory are suggested to Heartland Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Dora Lee Shannon, age 20 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, August 1, 2008 in Butler. She was born May 22, 1988 to Douglas Lee and Lea Ann Long Shannon in Kansas City, Kansas.
