Hawthorn Bank donates to CMC
Joe Ziegler, left, branch manager of Hawthorn Bank in Drexel, and Ralph Glazner, center, branch manager of Hawthorn Bank in Harrisonville, recently presented Sonya McLelland, director of Cass Medical Center Foundation, with a pledge of $15,000 from Hawthorn Bank. The pledge was made in support of Cass Medical Center Foundation's Help, Hope and Healing Campaign, which is a $1.65 million fundraising effort to help underwrite the Emergency Department (Help), chapel (Hope), and Healing Garden (Healing) at the new Cass Medical Center facility.
Drexel Lions to host 49th annual fireworks display
The City of Drexel and the Drexel Lions Club are teaming up to offer yet another 4th of July filled event with fun and games for the entire family.
The 49th Annual 4th of July festivities will kick off early on Friday morning as those who wish to be front and center down Drexel's Main Street for the parade should line up at the intersection of State and Main Streets at 9:30 a.m. The parade is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Board motions to approve use of ITV
The Drexel R-IV School Board met in regular session on Monday, June 16th, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Media Center.
According to the Superintendent report, cost analysis for interactive television instructional programs are quite varied, stated Stivers. The use for the first year could be minimal, but there is no way of assessing use until the program is in place and the integrative possibilities into the existing curriculum is determined. Shipley made a motion to pursue the use of the ITV program for the 2008-2009 school year. Motion was seconded by Hocker, and passed unanimously.

Drexel Fire to hold Open House
The Drexel Fire Department will hold an Open House on July 4th, 2008 from noon to dusk. Visitors will receive an opportunity to meet all the firefighters and take a look around at the station.
Save a life; donate blood!
In July, as we recognize our American heritage, it is also important to remember our fellow human beings in need of life-saving blood. When someone needs blood, there is no synthetic substitute and that is why it is so important to give.
The Cass County Branch of the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive July 10, 2008, 2:00 til 6:00 pm at the office in the Mill-Walk Mall, 2733 Cantrell Rd.
Happy 25th Anniversary ~ Fairbairn
Janet M Fairbairn and Tobias R. Fairbairn will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on June 28th, 2008. The couple are planning a renewal of vows on the 28th of June at 3:00 p.m. at the Amsterdam Baptist Church in Amsterdam, Missouri. A reception will be held in the LaCygne Lake Park in LaCygne, Kansas.

Water issues tackled
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Special Session to discuss Resolution #240 on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Sharon Ann Plain (Owings) 1948-2008
Sharon Ann Plain (Owings) was born June 9, 1948 in Kansas City, Mo. She died June 17, 2008.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family.

Larry and Beverly Hudson of Drexel, MO will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 8, 2008. They are traveling to the islands of Hawaii and upon return they will have a dinner party hosted by their three children and spouses, Tim Hudson of Kansas City, Tracey and Mike Camden of Drexel and Tammy and Tony Privitera of Leawood, KS.
Birth Announcement - Cody Phillip Suschnick
Todd and Tonya Hocker-Suschnick of Liberal, Missouri have announced the birth of a son, Cody Phillip Suschnick, on May 15th, 2008 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Cody weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz., measuring 21” long.
Cody is welcomed home by his 4 year old brother Caleb. Paternal grandparents are Bob and Sally Suschnick of Liberal, Missouri. Maternal grandparents are Larry and Phyllis Hocker of Drexel, Missouri.
Birth Announcement - Walden Christopher Thomas
Rhianna and Chris Thomas of Kansas City, MO announce the birth of their son, Walden Christopher Thomas. Walden was born at North Kansas City Hospital on January 26, 2008. The young man weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.
His maternal grandparents are Lynn Hatfield of Coco, Florida and Larry Loucks of Sedalia, MO. His paternal grandparents are Pat and Trudy Thomas of Drexel, MO.
Great grandparents are Ernest and Margie Arnold, Dorothy and Larry Bradshaw, James Sali, and Cauline Edmondson.

Mabel Rosina Garner Klein, 97, died May 24, 2008 at her son’s home in Star, Idaho. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel on Ustick Road, Meridian, Idaho. A graveside dedication was Monday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Memorials may be made to: Cottey College, 1000 W Austin, Nevada, Missouri 64772.
Frolicking for a Bargain!
The Reece residence, was one of the many supporters of the Annual City Wide Garage Sale in Drexel last Saturday. Seventeen residences signed up to partake in the annual event, ridding their garages of years of accumulation and clutter, while many others chose not to, but still reaped the benefits of the many visitors to the area.

MoDOT to close Route D for up to eight weeks
Does your daily commute take you north on Route D? If so, you may want to find a different route in the next coming weeks. With the soar in fuel costs, a detour taking motorists to Route 71 HWY is an unlikely alternative. But in reality that could be the only one available. MoDOT plans to shut down Route D’s populated stretch of roadway in an effort to reconstruct while saving dollars in the long run.
Three charged in multiple car thefts
Three Belton men have been charged and arrested in the theft of three vehicles in Cass County on May 15 and 16th. During that time, it was reported that a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was stolen from the area of 175th and Allendale Dr, a 1990 Ford F150 was stolen from 227th and Cleveland, and a third vehicle, a 1999 Ford Taurus, was stolen in the 8900 block of 226th St. A fourth vehicle was reported stolen to the Cleveland Police Department during the same period; charges are pending in that case. Cleveland woman injured in one car accident
A Cleveland, Missouri woman was injured in single vehicle accident in Cass County on Thursday, June 5, 2008. The accident occurred at 3:57 p.m. on Missouri Highway 2, at Lake Annette Road.
Council reviews ordinance
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Drexel, Missouri met in Regular Session on Monday, June 9, 2008. Mayor Reece called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall.
Visitors present were: Janice South, Marcella Johnston, Skyler Lancaster, Stacy Rice, Jack King, Tyler Black, Doris Lancaster and Gary Lee. City staff present were: Police Chief Jon Carpenter, Marty Doughty and City Administrator, Michael Fisher. Those present on behalf of the City were: Chad Harrington, Larkin Group, Tyson Markham, McLiney & Company and Jerry Smith, DNR Financial Center.
